Pondering.

Question: What exactly does it say about us as a family that we spent the evening together and came home with Super Hero shirts for everyone?

Conclusion: I have no idea but we sure had fun!

Things that mix and things that don't.... (no pun intended)

What we've learned this week....

  • Things that don't mix:
Fingers and blenders. Just in case you were wondering.

  • Things that do mix:
Goldfish crackers, rain boots, little streams and late afternoons.

Perfect Spring Day

Wow! Does it feel good to get back in the swing of things? Absolutely, resoundingly YES!

We had a low key morning at home; had breakfast, picked up a bit and the kids and dad played in the attic. We took off to do a little morel-ling and although we didn't any we did find some of the most amazing flowers. Which of course we had to stop and admire!

The afternoon was spent outside fixing up the yard and house. We washed windows, put out the porch furniture (YES, Spring!!!) raked, strolled the neighborhood, etc., etc., etc. Finished the evening with a little dinner and bubbles are currently in progress thanks to my amazing hubby!

I was constantly reminded today of how lucky I am! My greatest accomplishment to date is that my kids love each other and truly enjoy being together. The above scene melts my heart.

My girl and running.

Amelia: "Mommy, thank you running with me."

How lucky am I that my sweet baby girl likes to go running?! We stop and admire every river we cross and count the Robins as we pass. It's one of the highlights of my day.

In Celebration of Earth Day

In the morning I asked the kids how they wanted to celebrate and Ben announced that he thought the best way to celebrate the day was to be outside and enjoy. I thought that sounded perfect!

We spent the morning in Bay View on the playground, playing baseball, throwing rocks into the river and watching spider bugs. And for anyone that may be concerned, Amelia announced that "spider bugs not bite Mousey because Mommy loves me". Melt my heart.

"Sploosh!"

Our mighty fisherman, even without a real pole he's hoping to catch something.

Our future yogi doing the tree pose atop a stump.

Late in the afternoon the boys went for Ben's first mountain biking ride. He had a blast!

The faster the better I'm afraid...

Success.

And finally..... We made a purchase in honor of Earth Day. I'm afraid Ben and I are entirely too excited about this!

Isn't it beautiful?!

And... did you know that approximately 5% of our country's pollution
contribution is due to our lawnmowers? Yikes!!

Big City Living and The BIG 2!!!

We escaped the small town life for a few day and headed for the Windy City!

We were busy gazing up at sky scrapers, riding trains, elevators, escalators and taxis, observing wild animals we only read about in books, watching the frogs, sharks and other amazing aquatic animals and hanging out as a family. We had a ball!

We departed via train for Chicago on Amelia's 2nd birthday or in her words "Cago, Mousey's birfday, choo choo Thomas" and it was the most amazing birthday present. On the way home, Ben announced that he was thinking of where he wanted to head for his birthday. Uh oh!! Possibly we've started a wonderful new tradition....

Once we returned home (to our newly finished house!!!) we celebrated Amelia's birthday with family and dear friends with a little party at home. The theme was dress-up and you'll be happy to know that great minds really DO think alike. Our little princess fairy received two sets of fairy wings and fairy skirts (each of which were hand made!) by her grandmas!

First moments on the train, blankie always close at hand.

I love watching the three of them together. Their daddy is definitely their real-life super hero!

First views of the city, can you see the wonder?!
It was one of those "take your breath away mama moments". It's so awesome to watch these little people experience all of those "firsts".

Our own little fish - so proud!!

"Fork Sticks", better known as chop sticks!

Birthday celebration one. Pineapple with sparklers - quite the hit!

Mesmerized at the aquarium.

Birthday celebration two - courtesy of our dear friends the Comstocks.

He looked all to comfortable strolling down Michigan Ave. with his Starbucks in hand!

Pictures are worth 1000 words... Happy Birthday baby girl, you light up our life!

Waiting with great anticipation for the requested purple cake.

Getting a little help with the candles.
